Health Companion App Prototype (Balsamiq Mockups)

The aim of this project was to prototype a fitness companion app to help users lose weight and improve their fitness. The development of the application was primarily focused on users of an older age group (40+). Below, you will find an initial click-through prototype that was created using Balsamiq Mockups. In addition to this prototype, a complementary persona was designed using Xtensio.
The persona is 51-year-old teacher that is out of shape and primarily wants to lose weight. Because the persona is a little older, the application should be easy to use and it should not have too many complicated functionalities. After all, one of the user’s experience goals is feeling in control. The persona wants to lose weight and improve their fitness but he is not very motivated to do so and he is not particularly interested in fitness. He will only use the application for his main goals but he does not need an abundance of options in the app. Additionally, the persona is quite inexperienced with mobile applications so the functions in the app need to be clear and concise.

In order to achieve this level of simplicity, the app utilizes self-explanatory buttons and icons that can be accessed with a simple tap. Every button has a label or title to ensure that the user can easily deduce functionalities. Lastly, to optimize navigability, all core menus are linked together. For example, the information in the food and fitness menus is linked to the workout function. This enables the user to know exactly how much calories have been consumed and how long the user needs to exercise to lose these calories again. This functionality allows the persona to achieve their primary goal of losing weight.
